Northern Stars Chorus Sang at 'Music In the Village'
On Saturday evening, 22 April, the Northern Stars Chorus sang as part of Music in the Village event at Ashton United Church. We very much enjoyed singing for everyone. It was a thrill and a pleasure seeing many toes tapping, hands beating the rhythm timing, and people mouthing the words to most of our songs.
We thank Ashton United Church for inviting us to be a part of their evening.

Northern Stars Chorus Sing in Harmony Hall !
In mid-March 2017 members of the Northern Stars Chorus were invited to sing in Harmony Hall. Barbershoppers will recognize that name as a famous part of the Barbershop Harmony Society headquarters. Below is a photo of some of us outside Harmony Hall.

We were invited to sing for the Manotick, ON Kiwanis meeting. The day was the same as one of our regular meeting nights and we cancelled our regular rehearsal time in favour of entertaining an audience. We received a very warm welcome and shared dinner with them. Following the meal we retired to the Boardroom for a brief warm up of our voices and quick review of the start of a few of our songs.
Returning to the same location where our dinner seating was, we started our set. The expectation was to sing for 20 to 30 minutes. We quickly saw our audience was enjoying our selection of songs as they were nodding their heads and tapping toes and fingers on tables to the beat of our songs. Others were mouthing the words to many songs with great familiarity with them.
For the chorus members able to be present at the sing out, we enjoyed our performance. In the weeks leading up to our sing out, we had been improving our singing a great deal and adding more interpretation of and feeling to songs. This Tuesday was an application of what we had practiced and enjoyed in our rehearsals. And it returned huge satisfaction to each of us. We were relaxed and rang very many chords to our and our audience's delight.
Our program consisted mainly of old time favourites. We were not aware they were celebrating with a St. Patrick's theme and were glad to add to the evening by closing with 'Irish Blessing'. It was truly a rewarding and memorable evening.

Start Your Day The Right Way - Singing
Any day is a good day to start setting yourself up for enjoying days even more.
Whether you're looking to get out of the house more often, develop your lung capacity, satisfy your desire or wish to sing more, or learn how to sing better, we have a solution for you.
A good start is one evening a week. It isn't much time from your day or week nor does it require much of a change in your schedule. The solution is singing.
We offer a location, other singers who sing your part, other singers who sing the other three parts to make beautiful harmony, and a selection of interesting songs. Included with the evening is a song book for you to reference. You don't need to have the ability to read music - half of our singers do not read music. Join in singing with us and have a good time. Over time you'll enjoy your progress.
As we have read, singing is good for your health. It increases your lung capacity (I have heard some doctors performing a check up have identified singers because of their increased breathing capacity), increases confidence in yourself, helps you relax during a busy week, and much more.
You have 10,080 minutes each week. Why not invest 150 of these having a fun, interesting time singing with us?
